15 illegal immigrants wash ashore in Libya’s Sabratha after boat burns at sea

The Libyan Red Crescent in Sabratha has announced that its team of volunteers have found 15 bodies, some burnt, on a boat off the shore and washed up on the beach, adding that the bodies are for illegal immigrants who were trying to reach Europe through Libya via smuggling and human trafficking networks.

Photos and videos online showed the boat of the immigrants caught up in fire, which according to unverified sources and international news reports, could be due to a dispute that broke out between the immigrants and the traffickers, who are supposedly the ones to set the boat on fire and leave the people aboard to their doom.

The spokesman for the Ambulance and Emergency Apparatus in Tripoli, Osama Ali, said they were notified by Sabratha security forces that there was an immigrants’ boat on fire, adding that the Public Prosecution appointed their team in Sabratha, in cooperation with the Red Crescent in the city to go to the scene and recover the bodies and then send them to Dar Al-Rahma Hospital in there.
