54 MPs urge for holding elections to end legitimacy strife in Libya

In a letter issued on Saturday and sent to Secretary General of the Arab League Ahmad Aboul Gheit, 54 members of the House of Representatives (HoR) – Parliamentarians Against Extension – called on the Arab League to exert more efforts for holding general elections that end the conflict for legitimacy.

“We reject withdrawing confidence from the Government of National Unity headed by Abdul Hamid Dbeibah. HoR Speaker Aqila Saleh is now working in violation of the bylaws and is abusing his power. Libyan Political Agreement set a clear quorum for confidence withdrawal which is tied to approval of the High Council of State in a public session and agreement of 120 HoR members. This hasn’t happened.” The letter says.

They said only 78 HoR members withdrew confidence from Dbiebah’s government in sessions lacking transparency and international as well as regional monitoring.

The letter came to respond to a letter sent by Saleh calling on Aboul Gheit to support the resolutions of the HoR and Fathi Bashagha’s government so it works outside Tripoli until the capital is “liberated”.
