The UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, has called on all regional and international stakeholders of the Libyan situation to commit to the ceasefire agreement, which was signed last October, and to ensure the withdrawal of foreign mercenaries from Libya.
In a letter to the Security Council, obtained by Libya Alahrar TV, Guterres urged all Libyan parties to reach a permanent political solution and to alleviate the humanitarian situation in the country.
The letter also called for releasing all arbitrarily-held people in Libya and transferring the legally-held ones to state detentions, urging for dealing with the detainees as per intentional laws and conventions.
In the meantime, a high-ranking UN source has confirmed that the Security Council panel of experts’ report on Libya has described Khalifa Haftar’s inflexibility regarding the withdrawal of Russian Wagner Group mercenaries from the country.
The source added, reporting bits of the unpublished panel of experts’ report, that Haftar had proposed relocating mercenaries of Wagner Group and giving them a base in the southern region or in Sousa port in Libya.
The report, according to the source, described the Russian military force in Libya as being “doubled”, let alone the Russian flights that keep arriving in Libya despite the arms embargo on the country.
