GNU evaluates health situation in Al-Kufra amid surge of Sudanese refugees’ arrivals

The acting Minister of Health of the Government of National Unity (GNU), Ramadan Abu Janah, instructed the offices, departments and agencies affiliated with the Ministry of Health to communicate with the health authorities in Al-Kufra city to overcome all difficulties, with the arrival of large numbers of Sudanese refugees to the city after they had escaped the civil war.

The Ministry of Health indicated in a statement that it had directed the Center for Medicine, the National Center for Disease Control, and the Center for Emergency Medicine and Support to go to Al-Kufra to assess the health situation in the city.

The statement explained that these parties organized campaigns to vaccinate and immunize many immigrants against communicable and endemic diseases and organized treatment as well as detection campaigns for large numbers of immigrants in the region in cooperation with the city’s health authorities.

The Ministry of Health said that it was closely monitoring the health conditions in Al-Kufra on an ongoing basis and coordinating with local and health authorities, international organizations and the United Nations mission to avoid any emergency occurring in the region.

The Deputy Mayor of Al-Kufra revealed a significant increase in the number of Sudanese refugees’ influx, fleeing the civil war in Sudan, confirming that the numbers reached 100.000 people who were counted in 50 committees which issued them health certificates.
