The Ministry of Interior’s recent statistics on road accidents revealed the number of accidents registered during the third quarter of this year; saying they recorded 2.384 accidents in July, August and September of 2024 and they had resulted in 629 deaths, and 1.006 serious injuries and 933 mild ones.
The Interior Ministry indicated that 3.857 vehicles were damaged, noting that the estimated value of material damages resulting from the accidents exceeded 20 million Libyan dinars. It stressed that traffic safety is a collective responsibility, and that the “solution begins with drivers adhering to the rules of the road and avoiding dangerous behaviors while driving.”
It urged everyone on the road, especially drivers, to take serious measures to address the causes of the increase in accidents, noting that non-compliance with traffic laws, such as excessive speed, using the phone while driving and unsafe overtaking were among the most prominent reasons behind these devastating accidents, in addition to neglecting periodic maintenance of vehicles.
