The Watch the Med organization said that it had lost contact with about 40 irregular migrants who were on board a boat that set off from the coast of Libya, confirming that it had launched a distress call for them in recent days.
Italian media has quoted the organization as saying that the boat was on its way to the island of Lampedusa, stressing that the European border protection agency Frontex and the Italian Coast Guard searched for the boat to no avail.
Watch the Med has indicated that it alerted the authorities in this regard, but no information was provided yet regarding the boat nor was there any news concerning its arrival to shore until now.
