A Russian project to establish a military corps in Africa, starting from Libya

The French newspaper Le Monde has reported that the Russian Ministry of Defense has established a new corps called “Africa Corps,” to strengthen its presence in Libya and Africa.

The newspaper added in a lengthy report that this corps will include members of the Wagner Company as well as new recruits, noting that procedures for accepting new personnel have begun.

Le Monde explained that these Russian reforms in the Wagner company come after mutual visits between Benghazi and Moscow, which resulted in an agreement between Haftar and Putin to expand the Russian presence in Libya and Africa, through the new Africa Corps.

The paper stated that Moscow is trying, through the Ministry of Defense, to renew its setup in Africa and abandon the Wagner brand.

It also pointed out that this new name was directly inspired by the “Afrika Korps”, the German battalions that fought in North Africa during World War II.
