The Egyptian President Abdelfattah El Sisi has announced “Cairo Initiative” to form a new constitutional declaration to feature a new political phase in Libya.
The initiative, which was agreed on by Khalifa Haftar and the Speaker of Tobruk House of Representatives Aqila Saleh, without any GNA official attendance, said there should be a ceasefire and resumption of peace negotiations in Geneva under the auspices of the UN (5+5).
El Sisi warned of the insistence on military solutions in Libya by any party to the conflict, despite his public support to Haftar’s militias in their war on Tripoli, which was also acknowledged by Haftar who thanked in the joint presser in Cairo Egypt and asked it to take a firmer stance against Turkish support to GNA.
