Aguila Saleh denounces government’s request for members of the Egyptian embassy to leave Libyan territory

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, denounced the request of the Government of National Unity (GNU) for Egyptian intelligence officials at the embassy in Tripoli to leave Libyan territory.

Saleh condemned in a brief statement the GNU’s request and considered the request “irresponsible” defending the action of the Egyptian authorities.

A source from the GNU confirmed to Libya Al-Ahrar that the government informed Egyptian intelligence officials among the embassy employees in Tripoli to leave Libyan territory immediately.

This notification came hours after the Egyptian Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, received the head of the parallel government assigned by the House of Representatives, Osama Hamad, accompanied by the Director of the “Development and Reconstruction Fund of Libya” Belqasim Haftar, to discuss the role of Egyptian companies in the reconstruction of Libya.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the GNU expressed in a statement its strong dissatisfaction and absolute rejection of Egypt’s official reception of Hammad, describing it as a step that represents “a departure from the unified international position that rejects the country’s return to a state of division and conflict.”
