Coordination is vital for aids’ delivery in east Libya, say officials in west region

The Deputy Head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, has held a meeting with the Prime Minister, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, and the Head of the High Council of State, Mohammed Takala, in Tripoli to discuss the latest developments in eastern Libya.

The Presidential Council’s media office said in a statement on Thursday that the meeting had seen discussions on the efforts of relief teams as well as the search and rescue operations in Derna, in addition to he disaster areas in eastern Libya, following Storm Daniel and ensuing floods.

According to the statement, Al-Lafi, Dbeibah and Takala had reiterated the need to organize humanitarian assistance and aids’ delivery to Derna and other ravaged cities in order to help alleviate the situation and assist the local and international teams working in the region.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has estimated that 43,059 individuals have been internally displaced by the floods in northeastern Libya.

The full scale of the death toll has yet to emerge and officials have given widely varying death tolls. The World Health Organization has so far confirmed 3,922 deaths.
