The Head of the Libyan High Council of State (HCS), Khalid Al-Mishir, said in an interview with Libya Alahrar TV on Saturday that Khalifa Haftar had been pressuring the Government of National Unity to pay the “General Command” forces’ salaries (groups of militias operating under his command) and appoint a Defense Minister in order to allow the government to work in a normal manner.
The Head of the HCS indicated that the cessation of salary payments to Haftar’s forces was a routine procedure as some of them didn’t have national identification numbers while some others had dual employment status.
Regarding elections, Al-Mishri said the House of Representatives wanted to hold elections based on February Committee outcomes that had been annulled by the Supreme Court, adding that the international community was surprised to see the HoR’s legislation allowing on-duty military figures to run for presidential elections.
