Al-Mishri proposes holding presidential elections on February 15

The Head of the High Council of State (HCS) Khalid Al-Mishri has said he will propose holding Libyan presidential elections’ first round on February 15 in line with the holding of the parliamentary elections.

Al-Mishri added in a televised statement on Friday that the current electoral process lacks the minimum of requirements such as the constitutional basis, clean electoral records of candidates and a capable electoral commission, which has proven weak even in controlling its social media accounts.

Al-Mishri said he wouldn’t take part in elections in their current form, neither as a voter nor as a candidate. He added there are parties that want to plunge the HCS into conflict instead of concord and consensus to end the political stalemate.
