Al-Sarraj calls for an emergency meeting to unite Central Bank of Libya

The Head of the Libyan Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sarraj has called on the administration of the Central Bank of Libya (CBL) to attend an emergency meeting to take necessary and urging measures to unite the CBL.

In a statement on Thursday, the Presidential Council’s Head said his government was ready to provide assistance to hold the meeting for the CBL and then follow up on its results, urging the UNSMIL to also back up this procedure.

“The individual approach and one-man decision should come to an end at the CBL. Also, the individual authority of the fiscal and monetary policies of the CBL should end. No more personal viewpoints in the place of the international ones.” The Presidential Council’s Head remarked.

He also said that “this man at the CBL” had halted the transfer and clearing systems at the bank and delayed salaries that had been referred to the CBL on a monthly basis by the Ministry of Finance.

“This behavior has caused huge damage to the income of Libyan citizens, in addition to the interference in state economic and financial policies. Such a behavior could have serious consequences.” Al-Sarraj added.

The Presidential Council said last Tuesday that it was ready to cooperate with international calls, especially the UNSMIL and US embassy in Libya, in uniting sovereign state institutions such as the Central Bank of Libya.
