Al-Sarraj: GNA went to Moscow out of strength not weakness

The Head of the Libyan Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sarraj has remarked that his government has attended Moscow meeting to sign the ceasefire out of strength not weakness and in order to assure all parties that the solution in Libya is political not military.

Speaking to AlJazeera on Tuesday, Al-Sarraj added that there are Russian mercenaries with the other party of the conflict and that is why there has to be some sort of common ground for understanding with Moscow.

“Turkey is a very powerful ally to us and it recognizes the legitimacy of the Government of National Accord. The MoUs with Turkey bolster our defenses in Tripoli against the aggression and helps shape the dream of a civilian state in Libya.” Al-Sarraj explained.

He also expressed bewilderment about the UAE’s building of a military base in eastern Libya while it recognizes the legitimacy of the Government of National Accord (GNA).

“We have spoken also with the Egyptians about such contradictions and inconsistencies. We call on them to reconsider their stance regarding the Libyan conflict in a constructive dialogue with the GNA.” Al-Sarraj added.
