The Chairman of the High National Elections Commission (HNEC), Emad Al-Sayeh, discussed with the Deputy Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Stephanie Khoury, procedures for preparing for the municipal elections, the launch of which will be announced early next month.
According to the HNEC, in their first meeting, the two sides reviewed the positions of the political parties regarding the electoral process in general, and municipal council elections in particular, and their impact on the possibility of their implementation and chances of success.
They also discussed the extent to which the executive authority contributes to supporting the efforts made by the HNEC to implement the municipal council election process and the financial and security support these authorities provide.
The meeting also reviewed the challenges facing the support project managed by the United Nations Development Program in Libya, and taking urgent decisions regarding advancing the project to support the process of electing municipal councils.
