Amnesty International: US should stop selling drones to UAE over use in Libya

Amnesty International has called on the United States to stop selling 18 drones (MQ-9 Reaper) to the United Arab Emirates as evidence shows Abu Dhabi’s involvement in killing civilians in Libya.

Amnesty International said that the US State Department notified the Congress for selling the three billion worth drones to the UAE last week after gathering substantial evidence about Abu Dhabi’s use of drones in Libya in violation of the UN arms embargo in there.

It also explained that the UAE used drones to target civilian houses, hospitals, field hospitals and ambulances among other facilities in Libya, adding that Abu Dhabi had given Chinese-made Loong Wing drones to Khalifa Haftar’s forces.
