Bathily reviews progress of electoral laws with HoR Speaker

The United Nations’ (UN) envoy to Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, said he met Wednesday with the Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Aqila Saleh in Al-Qubba town in eastern Libya to discuss the recent political developments and the 6+6 Committee’s progress on election laws.

“As a courtesy to the people of Libya, I urged the Speaker to encourage the 6+6 Committee to keep their discussions exclusive to the Libyan people and the two Chambers that authorized them and make their announcement on Libyan soil as a sign of transparency and respect.” Bathily said on Twitter.

Bathily added that they had agreed that it was critical to complete the committee’s task as soon as possible, making sure laws were implementable. He indicated they had agreed that inclusive, transparent elections are the only viable solution to overcome the current crisis and build a solid foundation for a prosperous future for all Libyans.
