Bathily urges Libya presidential candidates to agree on proposal to end deadlock

The UN envoy to Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, met Saturday with a group of political figures from different parts of Libya who submitted their nomination for the presidential election that should have taken place last year.

Bathily said he had asked them to discuss among themselves and agree on a unified proposal to break the deadlock within a specific timeline, encouraging them to consider the legal, constitutional and security aspects required to create a level playing field for successful elections.

He also said on Twitter that the Libyan people are determined to see 2023 as the dawn of a new era for their nation.
