Calls for the Libyan government to stand with the South African lawsuit in support of Gaza

A statement on behalf of 75 members of the High Council of State called on the presidency of the Council to address the Presidential Council and the Government of National Unity, with the need to provide the necessary legal support for the lawsuit filed by South Africa against the Israeli Occupation at the International Court of Justice (ICC) for the crimes it is committing against the Palestinians.

The members requested the Council’s presidency to call on other Arab countries to support this lawsuit. South Africa had filed a lawsuit against the genocide carried out against the Palestinian people which included the use of internationally prohibited weapons, such fission and phosphorous bombs.

Libya had previously signed and ratified the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide which addresses committing the crime of genocide as well as direct and public incitement of genocide and any participation in it.

22,000 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli occupation since October and nearly 60,000 have been injured, in addition to the complete destruction of infrastructure and the total collapse of health services.
