Calm descends on Tajoura after heavy clashes

The Mayor of Tajoura, Khalid Al-Azraq, told Libya Al-Ahrar TV at dawn on Wednesday that the problem between two armed groups of the municipality was resolved after heavy clashes that led to the killing of a woman by indiscriminate fire.

Speaking to Libya Al-Ahrar TV, the Mayor said the coastal and beach (Al-Shat) roads had been reopened after resolving the conflict between the two armed groups, adding that criminal investigation and security directorates’ forces set up patrols in the area for third-party security.

The clashes started on Tuesday between (Sabriyah) and (Rahbat Al-Duroo) brigades which are both based in Tajoura. Their fighting, according to the spokesman for the Ambulance and Emergency Apparatus, Osama Ali, led to the killing of a woman who suffered a gunshot in the head.

The Ambulance and Emergency Apparatus said it had evacuated several families who were at different beach sites across Tajoura, sending them away from the fighting zone through Wadi Al-Rabie road.

The abrupt clashes came less than 24 hours from the kick-start of the Trans-Mediterranean Migration Forum, which the Government of National Unity is hosting in Tripoli on Wednesday in the presence of European and African officials.
