Chinese nationals arrested on charges of gold prospecting

The Public Prosecution has ordered the imprisonment of four Chinese nationals and a Libyan citizen who was managing their affairs on charges of prospecting for gold in violation of local legislation.

The judicial officer in the Libyan Intelligence Service noticed the presence of the four Chinese nationals in the country without proof of their passage through the state’s ports.

The Public Prosecution stated that the indicted Libyan citizen was accused of attempting to organize gold mining activities with the help of foreigners smuggled into the country from Niger and Chad.

Some of the collaborators were assigned to prospect for gold in four sites near the Qatrun region near the southern borders without the approval of the authorities.
