El-Sonni condemns the war crimes against Gaza and calls for resolving Libyan disputes regarding election laws

The Libyan representative in the Security Council, Taher El-Sonni, called for the resolution of contentious points in election laws through a clear mechanism and a specific timetable.

During the Security Council session on Libya, El-Sonni emphasized the need to support holding elections as soon as possible to end the transitional stages in the country. He also confirmed that the assets and funds of the Libyan Investment Authority (LIA) are sovereign and should not be involved in any claims or compensation that may affect it. El-Sonni expressed his gratitude to the countries that rushed to help following the Derna disaster, calling on them to continue their assistance to overcome the crisis.

On the other hand, El-Sonni condemned the Israeli aggression on Gaza, describing what is happening as “genocide.” He called on ending the attacks on civilians in Gaza, saying that what civilians are exposed to there cannot be ignored. He also expressed his frustration with the absence of protection for civilians in Gaza, stressing that what is happening is rejected in all customs and religions.

El-Sonni pointed out that the world is following double standards regarding the aggressor and the victim, indicating that the Palestinian issue cannot be summarised by the events of October 7 alone. He also stressed the need to introduce aid and stop any attempt to displace Gaza residents from their land. El-Sonni confirmed that all Libyan people consider Palestine’s issue their own issue and see no solution except by restoring Palestinian people’s rights and establishing their independent state with its capital Jerusalem.
