Erdogan: Leaving Libya at the mercy of a warlord is “historic mistake”

The Turkish President Recept Tayyip Erdogan said it would be a historic mistake to leave Libya at the mercy of a warlord, referring to Khalifa Haftar, who has been leading an aggression on Tripoli for the last nine months.

Speaking to Politico on Saturday, Erdogan added that if the legitimate government in Libya is overthrown, Europe will face new challenges and threats.

The Turkish President also called on the European Union to show the world that it is an important actor in the international arena.

Erdogan reiterated that the road to peace in Libya passes through Turkey, adding that Ankara is going to train Libyan security forces and help them in their fight against terrorism and human trafficking.
