Fifth High Financial Committee’s meeting convenes in south Libya

The Head of the Presidential Council, Mohammed Menfi, has chaired the fifth meeting of the Libyan High Financial Committee in Sabha – south of the country. The members of the Committee attended the meeting, calling on all parties to abide by its decisions, not to deviate from the national and international consensus, and to achieve the higher goals of the Committee: namely; protecting the country’s unity, stability and sovereignty.

The chairman, Menfi, hailed the practical measures that had been taken by members of the military institution and security apparatuses in the southern region in countering the ramification of the the unrest experienced by Libyan southern neighboring countries. He also stressed the significance of returning decent living conditions to Murzuq municipality and implementing the reconstruction plans in the neglected southern districts.

Responding to a statement issued by the member of the Committee, the deputy governor of the Central Bank of Libya (CBL), in which he questioned the legality of the Committee; Menfi said he was surprised at the doubtful comments against the legality of forming the Committee after it had been actively working for the last 60 days. He remarked that the Constitutional Circuit Court had been activated and could accept any appeals against the Committee.

Menfi reiterated the necessity to protect the facilities of the National Oil Corporation (NOC) and the General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL), in addition to the need to agree on a comprehensive strategy for the energy sector by forming a technical committee of experts. He urged the relevant ministries and the CBL to quickly submit detailed financial statements, especially those related to (Chapter Three) of the budget for 2022.
