At least five fighters from Khalifa Haftar’s militias have been killed in airstrikes by the Government of National Accord’s Air Force on Al-Watiya airbase in western Libya, sources confirmed to Alahrar TV on Tuesday.
The sources said a number of airstrikes by the GNA Air Force hit positions for Haftar’s militias at the airbase, adding that the killed militia fighters were from 106 Brigade; Al-Asifa Brigade.
The Libyan Air Force has been targeting Haftar’s militias at Al-Watiya airbase since the launching of Operation Peace Storm last Wednesday.
On the day of the Operation’s launching, GNA forces killed a number of militia fighters and captured 27 others, in addition to seizing a number of vehicles and military equipment.
According to the spokesman for the Libyan Army under the command of GNA, Mohammed Gununu, Operation Peace Storm aimed to target the locations Haftar’s militias were using to shell civilians in Tripoli.
