Ghadames border crossing… No specific date yet for its reopening

The spokesman for the Land Ports Department of the Ministry of Transportation, Osama Al-Hamrouni, has stated that arrangements and preparations are continuing on the Libyan side to open the “Ghadames-Al-Dabdab” border crossing with Algeria.

Al-Hamrouni added in a statement to Libya Alahrar that there is no specific date yet for its opening, despite stressing that the preparations and arrangements are going well. He clarified that they are waiting for the Algerian authorities to announce readiness for opening the crossing from their side, after assessment of the security conditions at the port.

Al-Hamrouni mentioned that the Chief of General Staff Mohamed Al-Haddad and the Acting Interior Minister Emad Trabelsi are in Ghadames to discuss the mechanism for opening the crossing and to determine the security unit that will manage it.

Regarding the conditions at the Ras Jadeer crossing, Al-Hamrouni explained that they are also moving forward, as they seek to develop an arrangement to facilitate the passage of Libyan patients.

The Land Ports Administration reported last week that the opening of the Al-Dabdab-Ghadames border crossing had been postponed for an indefinite period, at the request of the Algerian authorities. It was previously scheduled to open officially on the 12th of December.
