The Ministerial Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) convened on Monday and reaffirmed in its final statement its position in support of Libya, the Libyan-Libyan political solution and the Security Council resolutions, reiterating its keenness to preserve the interests of the Libyan people, achieve security, stability and development in the country.
The statement called for ensuring Libya’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, stopping interference in its internal affairs, and ensuring the exit of all foreign forces, foreign fighters and mercenaries from Libyan territory, as well as supporting the efforts of the United Nations to reach a political solution, hold elections and unify state institutions to achieve the aspirations of the Libyan people.
The Ministerial Council welcomed the statement issued by the second meeting of members of the Libyan House of Representatives and the High Council of State, on July 18, 2024, which was held in Egypt, and stressed the need to hold presidential and legislative elections and form a single new government, calling on the international community to support national consensus.
The Ministerial Council also called on all parties in Libya to prevail wisdom and reason as well as to adopt political dialogue to resolve differences in a way that preserves the supreme interests of the State of Libya and achieves the aspirations of its people for development and prosperity.
The Council stressed the position of the GCC countries in support of the State of Libya and the political path as well as relevant Security Council resolutions in a way that preserves its security, stability and sovereignty.
