Haftar bought spy hardware from France

French newspaper, Liberation, has reported that the French company [Nexa Technologies] sold Khalifa Haftar in Libya a surveillance system “Alpha Max” that is capable of intercepting phone calls, in a violation of the UN Security Council and French resolutions regarding the country.

The newspaper said the company is under criminal investigation for relations with Haftar and violation of the UN Security Council resolutions, adding that the French Attorney General’s Anti-Terrorism Office is probing the selling of the company’s UAE-based branch of the spying hardware to Haftar.

“The investigation in France started after the deal was unveiled by the French Central Bureau for Fighting Crimes against Humanity, Genocide and War Crimes last July.” Liberation said.

Liberation added that the Central Bureau was probing another contract by Nexa Technologies in violation of French and Security Council embargo on Libya, adding that the company is described by experts as “never hesitant to provide services to regimes that don’t respect human rights.”
