The spokesman for the forces of Khalifa Haftar, Ahmed Al-Mismari, has denied “allegations” about sending mercenaries from Libya to Ukraine to fight alongside Russian troops – news that has been confirmed by the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.
The Ukrainian Defense Ministry said earlier this week that Khalifa Haftar had visited Moscow and promised to send Libyan volunteers to fight alongside Russia in Ukraine.
The Ukrainian Defense Ministry said it was expected that Russian mercenary group, Wagner, would organize the flights of the Libyan fighters on Russian air force planes.
Haftar’s private jet, Dassault Falcon-900 P4-RMA, which he uses in most of his travels, landed on March 16 in Moscow coming from the United Arab Emirates and left on March 18 to Austria and then to Italy.
Al-Mismari said “the general command” has no take on the Russian-Ukrainian war, reiterating that the Libyan official position on the war shall be announced by the Foreign Ministry. He also hailed the statement issued by Fathi Bashagha government’s Defense Minister, Ahmeid Houma, on the matter.
