Haftar has created police state in Benghazi to eliminate his opponents, NYT says

New York Times said Thursday that “death squad of Benghazi” Awliaa Al-Dam (Avengers of Blood) is accused of kidnapping and killing Khalifa Haftar’s opponents.

The American paper added that Haftar had used extremists to control mosques and state police and military institutions so they can intimidate people whose freedoms became restricted.

The New York Times added that Haftar depends on Gaddafi’s loyalists as most of them returned from Egypt and other countries in the last ten months to be part of Haftar’s militias.

“Haftar is now using dictatorship as a way to rule in the areas under his command. He is cracking down on any opposition to his way of policies that aim at seizing power in Libya.” The New York Times.
