Haftar victims’ lawyer to depose him on May 9

The lawyer representing the victims’ families of Khalifa Haftar’s crimes in the cases filed in the US District Court of Virginia, Mark Zaid, said on Twitter that he had submitted discovery requests to the CIA in the United States, Homeland Security, Citizenship and Immigration Services, and Department of State for records of whom he described as warlord Haftar, including his US citizenship.

Zaid indicated that Haftar is said to have come to the US through the CIA and was granted an American citizenship despite the fact that the Libyan law precludes his presidential candidacy for having dual citizenship.

“More importantly, if Haftar is a dual citizenship then the US Criminal Division of the Justice Department can prosecute him for alleged war crimes under US law.” The lawyer reiterated.

He said that the US President Administration had never responded to his letter that contained those revelations about Haftar, nor did the Trump Administration when he wrote the then Attorney General, Bill Barr.

“Federal agencies were asked to respond to our discovery requests by May 2, 2022. We are scheduled to depose Haftar on May 9, 2022.” The lawyer explained.
