Head of Libya’s HCS calls for positive Russian interference, consensus on election

The Head of the High Council of State (HCS), Mohammed Takala, has reiterated the need for consensus on the election laws in Libya in a way that they are acceptable to all parties so that the current state institutions can renew their legitimacy.

Speaking to a Russian TV channel, Takala said achieving peace in Libya required trust among all parties and this could come from consensus, which would be the basis for holding elections.

Takala said Russia “is able to play a mediator’s role given its various relations with the stakeholders,” adding that Russia’s intervention in the Libyan situation should be positive and unbiased.

“Libya and Russia should boost economic cooperation in energy, health, high education, agriculture and tourism sectors.” Takala further explained.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Aqila Saleh reiterated in a session on Tuesday rejection for the amendment of the HoR-approved election laws, which were devised by the 6+6 joint committee of both the HoR and the HCS, but the latter rejected some of the laws’ articles.
