Heavy rain sweeps through northwest Libya

The National Center of Meteorology announced Saturday an improvement in weather conditions after the northwestern regions witnessed heavy rainfall during the past two days. It explained in its statement that the low pressure system that caused the rain has moved away, expecting stable weather conditions on Monday in most parts of the country.

The statement indicated that there is a possibility of light rain falling this morning in areas extending from Al-Zawiya to Sirte, before the rain clouds gradually disappeared this afternoon, with relatively active winds in most areas of the northwestern region.

As for the eastern region, the center expects clouds to increase from Saturday evening until Sunday morning in the areas of Ajdabiya, Benghazi Plain and Al-Jabal Al-Akhdar, with the possibility of light rain, while the southern region, especially the southwest, will witness relatively cold weather.

The Minister of Local Government, Badr Al-Deen Al-Tumi, announced the registration of two deaths and one missing person in the city of Tarhuna, as a result of the heavy rain and floods that swept the country. Al-Tumi stressed that the plan put in place in advance to deal with the weather fluctuations had contributed to reducing human losses, praising the positive coordination between the concerned authorities and citizens.

He pointed out that the rescue and support teams had been working hard, stressing that the material damage to public and private property was being reordered, and that the necessary compensation would be provided to all those affected based on the directives of the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity.
