HoR Speaker: Presidential Council cannot devise constitutional basis for Libya elections

The Libyan House of Representatives (HoR) convened on Thursday afternoon in Benghazi, eastern Libya, chaired by Speaker Aqila Saleh and his First Deputy Fawzi Al-Nuwairi.

Speaker Saleh has told the members of the HoR that the Presidential Council cannot devise a constitutional basis for elections as it is out of its authorities, urging the Presidential Council to work within its relevant authorities.

The HoR Speaker also said the Presidential Council is biased to the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity Abdul Hamid Dbeibah and hasn’t acted upon the confidence vote for a new government by the HoR.

During the HoR meeting, Saleh asked media teams to take the session off air after a number of HoR members had requested consultations on the replacement of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
