Human Rights Watch said the United Arab Emirates (UAE) provided Khalifa Haftar’s militias last year with weapons and helped them in their war on Tripoli by carrying out drone strikes, causing civilian deaths and injuries.
Human Rights Watch added in a report on the UAE’s violations in 2020 that the Emiratis attacked a biscuit factory in south Tripoli in November 2019, killing eight civilians and injuring 27 others.
The organization indicated that, according to a report by the UN experts panel, the UAE provided Haftar with ammunition and drones in a clear violation of the UN arms embargo on the war-torn country, which was approved by the Security Council in 2011.
