The member of the Turkish Justice and Development Party Emrullah İşler said Turkey had supported the legitimate and internationally recognized government that is headed by Fayez Al-Sarraj in Libya, adding that Ankara’s position had been clear from the beginning.
İşler added, at a forum organized by the Middle East Studies Center (ORSAM) discussing the Libyan conflict and Turkey-Libya relations, that his country will support the Government of National Accord to ensure that democracy prevails in Libya and that military escalation ends once and for all.
He also indicated that Khalifa Haftar is an illegitimate figure as far as Turkey is concerned, since Ankara is opposed to military solutions in Libya and because Haftar’s supporters don’t want a democratic regime based on trust in Libya.
