Italy plans to raise the level of cooperation with Tunisia and Libya regarding migration

Italian Interior Minister, Matteo Piantedosi, said that Rome plans to strengthen cooperation with Libya and Tunisia in 2024 to support the voluntary return of migrants to their homes through the two countries.

Piantedosi explained that cooperation with Tunisia contributed to reducing migrant boats by an estimated 192% this year, noting that a similar approach could be followed with Libya.

Piantedosi added that Libya and Tunisia have called several times to launch a project that could be funded through Europe with the contribution of international humanitarian organizations. Piantedosi pointed out that the Italian authorities have begun to see the effects of the cooperation agreements with Tunisia and Libya.

The Italian Minister stated that developing cooperation with Tunisia and Libya, as the main transit countries, creates more confidence that this approach is correct and through which the decrease in the number of migrants next year would be guaranteed.
