Italy seizes Benghazi-bound weapons

The Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera said that Italian authorities seized last Tuesday a shipment of weapons that was heading to Benghazi in eastern Libya, adding that the weapons were on board a commercial ship coming from southern China.

According to Corriere della Sera, the process of seizing the weapons was carried out at the request of the United States after the ship “MSC Arena” had docked in Italy , confirming that the weapons were worth several million dollars.

The newspaper indicated that Russia was responsible for sending those weapons to its ally, Khalifa Haftar, as part of the expansion of its operations and presence in Africa.
