Italy vows to assist Libya in building solid institutional state

The Italian Foreign Minister Luigi di Maio said Tuesday, after wrapping up a visit to Tripoli, Benghazi and Tobruk, that Rome will accompany Libya throughout the shift into a hoped-for institutional change.

Di Maio added on Facebook that the focus should now be on holding elections on December 24 as per the roadmap of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum, saying Rome is committed to assisting Libya and that they expect the elections to be free and fair.

According to Aki news agency, Di Maio said Libyan elections will be a new phase for the political process under the auspices of the international community, adding that Italy’s support for Libya includes increasing economic exchange and boosting security in the Mediterranean as well as protecting people against human traffickers and terrorists.
