The Acting Minister of Interior, Emad Trabelsi, announced that an agreement was reached with the Tunisian side regarding the problems faced at the border crossings between Libya and Tunisia.
Trabelsi added in a joint press conference with his Tunisian counterpart that they had overcome the main “obstacles” that both sides were suffering from. Trabelsi said that there were logistical and technical problems, including the supply of machinery and construction work, which prevented the crossing from being fully opened.
He also announced that they had combated “large numbers” of fuel and drug smuggling operations and human traffickers thanks to the cooperation between the two countries.
Trabelsi revealed that there is a plan to secure the border between the two countries and that they have formed official units for security and installed surveillance towers along the border strip.
Tunisian Interior Minister Kamal Al-Feki said that they will work in the coming period on developing the monitoring devices at the crossings and on facilitating commercial shipments from the port.
Al-Feki stressed that they are collaborating to close all illegal routes to reduce smuggling, human trafficking, and irregular migration.
