Libya at a critical juncture, Menfi tells UN General Assembly

The Head of the Libyan Presidential Council of the Government of National Unity (GNU), Mohammed Menfi, said in his address to the General Assembly of the United Nations, that Libya was is at a “critical juncture”, and ” faces “serious challenges” that could undermine the planned December elections.”

Menfi said that Libya will hold an international conference in October to garner support for the country’s stability, saying that it will aim to ensure “unified, consistent” international support and restore a sense of Libyan leadership and ownership over the country’s future.

Meanwhile, the French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian told reporters in New York on Monday that France, Germany and Italy would co-host an international conference on Libya on November 12 to ensure the electoral calendar would remain in place.
