Libya considers joining the African Export-Import Bank

Minister of Finance in the Government of National Unity, Khaled Al-Mabrouk, discussed with the President of the African Export-Import Bank, Okey Orama, the possibility of Libya joining the bank.

This came on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the African Bank Group, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank currently being held in Marrakech, Morocco. The two sides also discussed possible cooperation between the African Export-Import Bank and Libyan institutions, especially in areas which the bank would normally finance.

Discussions also focused on the possibility of establishing partnerships and creating industrial projects, as well as cooperation in infrastructure and free zone projects and activating trade financing programs.

Libya remains the only African country that has not yet joined the Bank.
