Libya, Egypt agree on new bilateral relations vision

Libya and Egypt have reiterated in a joint statement in Tripoli the need to put in place a new vision for bilateral relations and develop regional as well as international partnership amid the ongoing political and economic changes around the world.

The statement followed a press conference held by the visiting Egyptian Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, and the Libyan counterpart, Abdul-Hamid Dbeibah. Both Premiers reaffirmed the need to avoid foreign intervention and side-taking with “enemy parties” which would harbor damage to Libya or Egypt.

The joint statement of the Libyan and Egyptian Prime Ministers also stressed the need for foreign forces to withdraw from Libya and reiterated the importance of conducting joint meetings and building friendship bridges between the two neighboring countries.

The statement announced that Libya and Egypt had signed agreements in the fields of transportation, infrastructure, health, electricity, communications, training and consultations and a number of other fields.

They also urged for more trade exchanges via businesspersons and investors, calling for facilitating the movement of goods between Libya and Egypt, in addition to anti-terrorism intelligence sharing.

Libya and Egypt will also be exchanging expertise in renewable energy sector as Libya had requested assistance from Cairo by sending Egyptian experts to share experience with Libyans and to raise their work capabilities.

“We condemn all forms of terrorism and urge to establish a system of database for Libya and Egypt to help fight terrorism and exchange intelligence on terror threats and wanted terrorists. We also stress the need for joint border patrols and checkpoints on joint land and maritime borders, in addition to establishing a joint anti-terrorism force.” The statement added.
