Libya general elections’ candidates start registration

Libya’s High National Elections Commission (HNEC) announced Sunday opening candidacy for parliamentary and presidential elections.

The HNEC said that starting on November 08, candidates of presidential elections will be accepted until November 22 and for parliamentary elections until December 07. Presidential elections’ first round is set for December 24, and 52 days later, the second round will start in line with the parliamentary elections. Results of both will be announced together.

The Head of the HNEC, Emad Al-Sayeh, added in a press conference in Tripoli that presidential candidates will be registered at the three branches of the HNEC in Tripoli, Benghazi and Sabha, while for parliamentary elections will be in all offices of the HNEC across Libya.

Al-Sayeh called on the candidates to abide by the rules of application and to provide all required documents without delay and modification, reiterating that voters’ cards will start as well in line with the candidacy registration, saying the distribution of 2.8 million cards will go on till November 28 across 1906 voting centers. He also urged all voters to go to the centers where they are registered with their ID papers to take their cards so they will be able to vote on December 24.
