Libya, Germany hold discussions ahead of post-Berlin ministerial meeting

The political adviser of the German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Jan Hacker, has discussed with the Libyan Foreign Minister Mohammed Sayala preparations for the foreign ministers’ meeting that will be held in Berlin in mid-February.

The Libyan Foreign Ministry of the Government of National Accord (GNA) said the two officials discussed on the phone the mechanisms of implementing Berlin conference conclusions.

The Ministry said that the discussions were part of the negotiations of the 5+5 military commission meetings in Geneva.

Meanwhile, the German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said Munich will host mid-February the first meeting for the follow-up commission of the Berlin conference on Libya.

Maas told reporters on Wednesday that the start of talks between the two warring parties in Libya was very positive and that Germany will continue to work on implementing the Berlin conference conclusions.
