Libya has not recorded any cases of the new Covid variant

The head of the scientific committee at the National Center for Disease Control, Ibrahim Al-Daghis, confirmed that Libya has not recorded any cases of the new “GN1” Covid variant, and that the epidemiological situation is stable.

Al-Daghis said, in an interview with Libya Alahrar, that all confirmed laboratory results throughout the country showed that the infections were influenza A.

Al-Daghis called on the elderly and those with chronic diseases and low immunity to receive seasonal influenza vaccinations to avoid any side complications and to take all necessary measures to confront the wave of the virus.

Al-Daghis also stressed the preparedness of the Center for Disease Control to confront any potential epidemics, noting that monitoring teams are continuing to take samples and swabs in all regions of the country.

It had announced in a statement that it had recorded a significant increase in respiratory disease cases, including deaths, since the beginning of last October.

The Center also expected that there will be an increase in Covid infections during the coming period, as a result of the new variant, calling on citizens to take influenza vaccinations, use masks in closed and poorly ventilated spaces, and to stay at home when the infection appears.
