Libya is at the forefront of Erdogan and Meloni’s discussions

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni agreed on reaching an understanding soon regarding Libya, according to the Italian Nova News Agency.

Nova reported that the two sides discussed approaches for developing and securing the Mediterranean region, with a special focus on Libya during the upcoming Rome summit.

Commenting on the meeting, the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera said that Libya may be the strongest meeting point at present between the Turkish and Italian sides.

Rome’s concern continues regarding the influx of irregular migrants coming through the coasts of Libya and Tunisia, as the Italian Interior Ministry announced that the number of migrants who used the Libyan coasts to reach Italy in 2023 was estimated at 47 thousand migrants.
