The Libyan Government of National Unity (GNU) and the Italian government have signed five memoranda of understanding (MoUs) in oil and gas, and investment fields, according to the media platform, Hokoometna, of the GNU.
The signing was inked in Rome after meetings between the Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah and his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni.
Dbeibah arrived in Rome accompanied by the Foreign Minister Najla Al-Mangoush, Designated Minister of Interior Emad Al-Trabelsi, Minister of State for Communication and Political Affairs Walid Ellafi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Oil Corporation Farhat Bengdara, and the Head of the Libyan Holding Company for Telecommunications.
The two sides, according to the media platform, signed MoUs in the fields of oil and natural gas, joint investment in the submerged areas in the Mediterranean basin and in the land areas in the Ghadames basin, electricity interconnection, fighting immigration, border protection, and activating the contracts for water and sewage treatment plants. In addition, they signed an agreement to link Libya with Italy by the existing submarine cable.
Dbeibah and Meloni discussed as well the possible lifting of the European airspace ban on Libyan in Italy, reviewing a potential time-frame for the lifting.
“Meloni and Dbeibah also discussed the necessary steps to establish the Libyan-Italian Higher Committee, in addition to the convening of the Libyan-Italian Economic Forum on the sidelines of the committee’s first meeting. Dbeiba, on the other hand, stressed the need for facilitating granting visas to Libyans wishing to travel to Italy.” The media platform remarked.
