Libya, Malta sign MoU in anti-illegal immigration cooperation

Libya and Malta signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in anti-illegal immigration efforts after an official visit to Tripoli by the Maltese Prime Minister Robert Abela on Thursday.

During the meeting in Tripoli, the Maltese Prime Minister told the Head of the Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sarraj that his country supports the Government of National Accord and rejects the aggression on Tripoli, saying Libyans should return to the political process.

The two officials also discussed European Union’s Operation IRINI, which aims at monitoring the UN arms embargo in Libya in the Mediterranean.

They also agreed that the EU’s Operation IRINI should take into considerations the reservations expressed by Libya and Malta as it starts to operate.
