The Libyan Minister-designate of Oil and Gas, Khalifa Abdul Sadiq, announced during his participation in the Istanbul Energy Forum Libya’s plans to increase natural gas and electricity exports to Europe.
Abdul Sadiq’s announcement came during a session titled “Challenges and Opportunities for a Resilient Future” within the Istanbul Energy Forum, which was organized by Anadolu News Agency under the auspices of the Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources.
The Minister-designate stressed the importance of regional cooperation to build gas pipelines to Europe, saying, Libya was seeking to increase the volume of natural gas exports, and thus cooperation and partnership in finding ways to set up pipelines to Europe.
Abdul Sadiq also revealed Libya’s strategy to increase reliance on gas exports, taking advantage of its distinguished geographical location in North Africa that made it an attraction point for investment in solar energy. He indicated that Libya was working to complete its projects in the gas sector, considering that the need for gas would increase over time, compared to oil.
Regarding the electricity sector, he announced that Libya had started exporting electricity in small quantities, with the ambition to increase these quantities significantly in the future, adding that the government “is open to investors in this field.”
The Minister-designate stressed that things were going in the right direction, and that Libya had already reached European markets, saying that the country “is committed to completing its projects with a focus on reducing carbon emissions.”
